Dr. Iqbal Shedai: Two-Nation Theory

Chapter 5: Dr. Iqbal Shedai's return travelogue

On 22nd July my friend Sayed Ahmed Hussein asked me to give a talk to his party men about Pakistan.

I accepted the request. The talk was to be given in the headquarters of the “MISR AL FATTAH” Party.
There were some two hundred people present. Sayed Ahmed Hussein introduced me to his party people and said that anyone could ask questions about Pakistan after my speech.

Most of them understood English. I put all my force into the arguments. The talk took two hours.
Then I asked them to put questions if any one of them had any doubts about Pakistan. Some young men asked me why the Indian Muslims separated themselves from the Hindus.

I replied that no person having any self-respect could remain amongst the Hindus.

I gave examples of my school and college days, how the Hindus treated us Muslims’ social.
For example, I said, I was a student in the Scotch Mission School & College like hundreds of Muslims.
The water giver was a Brahmin. The Hindu students could take water from the jars directly but we Muslims were not allowed to copy our Hindu school fellows.

The water giver gave us water at a distance of two meters. We were considered as parias i.e. unclean.
I asked the questioners if they would like to undergo such an ignoble treatment at the hands of their Christian compatriots.
They replied “No.”
I told them that we were together with our Hindu compatriots for about 8 centuries but they always considered us unclean and foreigners although the majority of Muslims were Hindes and, were converted to Islam.

I said that even the dung of cows was cleaner than we Muslims.

Such small anecdotes surprised the Egyptian young men who were my listeners.

Finally, they all shouted

“PAKISTAN ZINDABAD”

This meeting had the desired effect.

Naveed

I am an ordinary man.
